From the Lord Mayor's Office
Making our work count for Wollongong
On Monday night Council endorsed our 2024-25 Annual Report, highlighting all the services, facilities and infrastructure that have been provided to the community over the last financial year.
To give you a snapshot of the breath of things Council delivered, we had lifeguards on patrol at the city’s 17 beaches across the swim season, and at North Wollongong beach year-round. Council managed 285 sports and playing fields, 9 turf wickets, cleaned and maintained 9 ocean rock pools, 3 heated pools and 6 public swimming pools.
Thousands of people walked through the doors at Wollongong Art Gallery and Wollongong Botanic Garden and our 7 library branches welcomed more than 520,000 visitors and loaned more than 1.3 million items.

Council works hard behind the scenes to make Wollongong a liveable city. For example, more than 1,250 public bins are emptied across the Local Government Area each week – with three-quarters of them emptied up to 5 times a week. Our cleaning crews work in the early hours to keep the city’s amenities in good shape, and in our 6 operational cemeteries and gardens we’ve supported people to lay to rest around 760 loved ones.
Council started construction of the Southern Suburbs Communities and Library at Warrawong and the design work on for Helensburgh. We invested in stormwater infrastructure improvements, and the vital flood risk management studies and plans that ensure we’re leading the way when it comes to best practice in stormwater management. This will continue to be a focus for Council in the next financial year as we build our city’s resilience to climate change.

I’ll continue to work strategically and proactively to attract the right investment to our city. I’m focussed on Wollongong becoming the next cruise terminal in NSW and attracting much need investment in hotels. I’m looking forward to ongoing collaboration with our neighbouring LG8 councils to highlight the role the mega-region will play in future of NSW.
I am very proud of last year’s achievements and Council’s continued focus on delivering for the community.
