School-Based Traineeships

A School-Based Traineeship combines paid part-time work, on-the-job training and an industry recognised vocational qualification for which you will gain credit towards the HSC.

If you’re in Year 10 and interested in working at a Wollongong City Council over the next two years, we’d like to hear from you!

What will I do?

This year we have traineeships available in three areas of Council:


Certificate II or III in Business

  • Help customers use computers and mobile devices
  • Help create and deliver activities and events for the community
  • Participate in library programs such as Storytime, Book Club and author talks.
Leisure Centres

Certificate II or III in Business

  • Develop skills in sales, marketing and social media
  • Work on the front desk and help customers gain knowledge of Leisure Centre operations including childcare, exercise programs, swim school and
    gym-based activities.
Outdoor Spaces

Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management

  • Learn how Council is working with endangered plant species
  • Work in natural areas, the Botanic Garden and community parks
  • Learn all about bush regeneration, weeds, seeds and propagation.
