Revitalising Port Kembla

Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants and Traditional Custodians of the land where Port Kembla and its harbour are located.

After European settlement, the establishment of the port and steelworks saw this area become the industrial hub of the Illawarra. It was also used as a military precinct during World War II.

Today, Port Kembla is undergoing a process of transformation and reinvention, with support of Council, the NSW Government and local organisations. New businesses and activities are emerging, bringing new life to the area while honouring the history and unique character of this suburb.

Port Kembla Revitalisation Plan

The Port Kembla Revitalisation Plan PDF, 36343.61 KB was developed in partnership with the community, and with the support of the NSW Government. It includes a vision and series of strategies to help guide this suburb's change over the coming years.

You can also read the Engagement Report PDF, 11404.47 KB that helped to shape the plan.

Port Kembla Community Investment Fund

The Port Kembla Community Investment Fund (PKCIF) was established by the NSW Government in 2016 to support projects that revitalise Port Kembla and surrounding areas for the benefit of the community.

To learn more about this program, including projects funded in past rounds, please see the NSW Government website.
