Windang Foreshore Playground

Council is considering options for a new permanent playground in the Windang area.

The previous Windang Foreshore Playground was closed in April 2024, after storm events and tidal changes caused severe erosion along the foreshore. The site became unsafe, with parts of the playground collapsing into Lake Illawarra.

This playground has been removed and fencing and signage has been installed to highlight current safety hazards.

We are now considering potential sites for a new playground in the Windang area. This may take some time because this is an environmentally and culturally sensitive area. We also need to consider long-term erosion management and community needs before making a decision.

Windang Beach Tourist Park Playground

While we consider options for a replacement playground in Windang, we have renewed the playground at Windang Beach Tourist Park (pictured above), which is a short distance from the foreshore playground that was removed.

We have recently renewed the Windang Tourist Park playground, located just metres from the previous playground site, and it is now open to the public. Upgrades include new artificial turf, improvements to play equipment and fencing, and minor works on nearby roads and footpaths.

See our Windang Foreshore Playground page for more information and location details.

Council is also developing a new Playspace Strategy, which will help guide the future of playspaces in Windang.

See the map below for the location of the Windang Beach Tourist Park playground.
