Parking in the City Centre

If you’re driving to the Wollongong CBD, here is some useful information to help you find where to park.

Parking payment options

The most you'll pay for Council car parks or on-street parking is $1.10 per hour and as little as 60¢ per hour.

If the parking sign says ‘Ticket’ on it, you must pay by either:

  • Using the CellOPark app. Start and stop your parking session easily on the app, allowing you to only pay for the time you use. You can download the app on your phone.
  • Card or cash at the nearest parking meter, also called 'Pay and Display Machines'. You must display the printed ticket face-up on your dashboard.

Please note, if you are riding a motorcycle you do not need to purchase a ticket when parking in metered spaces. However, you still need to follow the rules shown on signs for time limits or any other conditions.

Many on-street parking spaces in Wollongong’s centre have time limits during the day, and parking fees may apply. Check signs for details.

You can pay for on-street parking at parking meters or with the CellOPark app.

All on-street parking is free at the following times:

  • Before 8.30am and after 4.30pm on weekdays
  • On weekends. Time limits apply on Saturdays between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
  • On public holidays.

Our city centre has several off-street car parks. Some are provided by Council, and others are run by shopping centres or private businesses.

In Council’s off-street car parks, fees and time limits apply on weekdays. Payment can be made at parking meters or with the CellOPark app.

Parking in Council’s off-street metered car parks is free and untimed at the following times:
  • Before 8.30am and after 4.30pm on weekdays
  • On weekends
  • On public holidays.

Our licenced car parks at the following locations are also available and free for public use on weekdays before 6am and after 5pm, and on weekends:

Council has several off-street car spaces in the city centre that are licenced for people to use on weekdays between 6am and 5pm. Outside those times, these spaces can be used by the general public for free.

Car park licences can be in the name of companies or individuals.

Parking meters are used for many on-street and off-street parking spaces in our city centre. These are also called ‘Pay and Display Machines’.

If street signs have the word ‘ticket’ on them, pay at the nearest parking meter with cash or credit card, or use the CellOPark app. Fees only apply during times shown on the signs.

After paying at a parking meter, leave your printed ticket face up on your dashboard.

Motorcycles

What to do if a parking meter isn’t working

If a parking meter isn’t working, call the Parking Meter Fault Line on 1300 994 392.

You should purchase a ticket from the next nearest working meter.

If you have paid twice because of a faulty meter, you can get the cost of the second ticket refunded if you reported the fault. Fill in a Parking Meter Refund Request Form PDF, 32.47 KB and bring it to our Customer Service Centre at 41 Burelli Street, Wollongong, with the original ticket.
