Calling for feedback on plans for the city’s future

Monday 29 April 2024

If you’re keen to understand what Wollongong City Council is planning to deliver for our community over the next few years, now is the time to flick through the Draft Delivery Program 2022-26 and Operational Plan 2024-2025.

This document sets out all of Council’s work for the next financial year and shares our plans for the year ahead.

“These documents are really important to the work of Wollongong City Council,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“While they look at the timing, budgets and plans for big projects, they also show what Council does daily for the community. These day-to-day services like our libraries, public pools and beach lifeguards and sports facilities are so important to how we live our lives.

“It’s really important to us that our community is aware of what we’re doing and has the opportunity to provide feedback on our plans.’’

The Draft Delivery Program 2022-26 and Operational Plan 2024-2025 is developed in response to the Community Strategic Plan, Our Wollongong 2032 and the goals within it.

These six goals, developed through extensive community consultation, provide a focus to ensure our local government area is a heathy, connected, creative and vibrant city where we have affordable and accessible transport and value and protect the local environment.

“These goals guide the works we do every day,’’ Cr Bradbery said.

“So, when we’re talking about goals of having a connected, creative community that’s translated into ensuring we’re offing engaging and diverse programs and activities at our libraries and in our youth spaces and that we deliver fun events like Comic Gong, Culture Mix and New Year’s Eve.”

“In terms of the goal to valuing the local environment that is demonstrated in the plan through the operation of waste collection and recycling, including FOGO, and striking a balance between housing needs and green spaces.’’

Community consultation for the Draft Delivery Program 2022-26 and Operational Plan 2024-2025 is open until 7 May 2024.

Feedback can be provided through Council’s website via an online feedback form, by emailing Council or by calling Council’s Customer Service team on 4227 7111.
