Share your thoughts on proposed hour changes at Unanderra Library

Would you like Unanderra Library to open earlier?

We’re currently seeking feedback on proposed operational changes for Unanderra Library to open at 9.30am every weekday. This will be more in line with our other libraries hours. Right now, the Unanderra location opens at 12.30pm on Wednesdays and 10am on all other weekdays.

“Our libraries are a great community hub and we’re always looking at ways to improve these valued spaces. With this, we’ve been told that opening hours can be better at Unanderra,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“The mornings are the busiest times at our libraries, so by shifting the opening hours it allows us to run popular programs at more suitable times as well as increase access options for visitors.”

Across the other library locations, the peak hours for visits and use are from 9.30am to 11.30am. It is a popular time with families with young children and older people. The mornings are also an ideal time to deliver early literacy programs.

Cr Bradbery said we have to explore options to deliver the best of services within the sources available. This is as simple as adjusting library opening times and how we better deliver with the assets available.

“We want to provide more access and build better experiences at our much-loved libraries that are spaces of learning as well as social inclusion. We encourage people to learn more about the proposal and share their thoughts with us,” Cr Bradbery said.

The proposed changes will not impact the closing hours on the weekdays, and it will remain the same. There will also be no changes to the weekend hours with Saturday remaining the same and Sunday closed.

The engagement is currently open and will close on Monday 13 May 2024.

We’re also inviting feedback about after-hour access. This means you can visit outside of regular opening times, and without library staff on site. There will be processes and procedures developed to support this.
