Next steps for vision project for Mt Kembla and Kembla Heights

Thursday 29 June 2023

Wollongong City Council is calling for Mount Kembla and Kembla Heights residents to be part of a community visioning project that will determine priorities that are important to residents and will be used to guide the future of their suburbs.

This is phase two of the Kembla Community Vision Project after we asked the community how they’d like to be involved in the project earlier this year.

Residents can share ideas online on the Our Wollongong website. Council will also hold two community workshops.

1. Creating Kembla's Visions and Values

WHEN: Saturday 22 July 2023, 2-5pm
WHERE: Kembla Heights Community Hall
WHAT: In this workshop, participants will review community feedback to draft a vision statement and create a set of values.

2. Exploring future possibilities for Kembla

WHEN: Thursday 3 August 2023, 5-8pm
WHERE: Kembla Heights Community Hall
WHAT: In this workshop, participants will draft a range of possible actions informed by the community’s visions and values.

If you’d like to take part in either of the workshops, register by 16 July 2023. For more information and to register interest for the workshops, visit the Our Wollongong website.

“Over the past 18 months, we’ve been speaking with the community about a range of different projects happening in the Mount Kembla and Kembla Heights area,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“During these conversations, residents told us that they wanted to develop a shared vision and plan for the future of their community. Council has taken on this feedback and we’re now getting ready to start the ball rolling on a new community-led vision project.

“Having a clear vision statement and action plan, will guide how Council and Councillors make decisions on behalf of the Mount Kembla and Kembla Heights community.

“This is important work, and we need our community to provide their feedback and participate in this process. It will take some time to do this properly as we want to ensure that everyone in the community has an opportunity to participate.

“We’re asking residents to really lead this project. You know your neighbourhood best, so please jump online, get involved in a workshop, and share feedback so that we can start the conversation around the vision for this community.”

Residents can read more about the project and submit feedback by visiting the Our Wollongong website. You have until Sunday 9 July 2023 to submit feedback.

This project is proudly funded by South32 Illawarra Metallurgical Coal in partnership with Wollongong City Council.

You can also share feedback by calling Council on (02) 4227 7111, emailing Council or writing to: Locked Bag 8821 WOLLONGONG DC.
