Book to Baton returns for an afternoon of scores, classics and more!

Wednesday 24 April 2024

Have you ever heard the famous Imperial March from Star Wars played by a live orchestra? Well, here’s your chance!

On Sunday 5 May, the IPAC will come alive as From Book to Baton 4 fills the room with film soundtracks, classical music, musical theatre, and opera.

Led by conductor Dr Steve Watson, the selection of music will be played by a talented 40-piece orchestra. The ensemble will include special guest soloists Sako Dermenjian (guitar), Maggie Elizabeth Zeng (violin) and Daniel Tambasco (tenor).

This will be the fourth iteration for Book to Baton and is proudly presented by The Friends of Wollongong City Libraries.

“The Friends of Wollongong City Libraries are a passionate and dedicated group who work hard behind the scenes to deliver special events and programs like Book to Baton as well as diverse author talks,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“This Friends event shows the library is about so much more than just celebrating a love of books as a physical object. This event invites people to appreciate the role music plays in bringing storytelling to life. For example, a particular chord can spark a feeling or a fast-paced score can energise a movie action scene.

“This show is much loved by our community and with special musical guests and a gifted conductor, you don’t want to miss out!”

The program includes pieces from Forrest Gump, The Empire Strikes Back, Superman, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Four Seasons, West Side Story and Tosca.
