Rewinding 2022 – here’s what you missed

The finish line for the year is in sight. Before we toast the new year with fireworks at the Wollongong Harbour, we’re taking a moment to look back at the year we’ve just had.

We don’t know about you, but we feel like this year has passed in a blur!

That’s why we’re taking a moment to revisit some of the top stories that got our community inspired and talking in 2022.

Of course, with more than 230 articles published on our website this year about Council-related events, activities, and news, it was hard to pick our favourites.

2022 UCI Road World Championships

All eyes were on our city in September thanks to this international event which saw!

We were blown away by the community feedback on the Spin Fest exhibition ‘Beyond the Breaking Waves’ which was projected onto the Lighthouse during UCI.

Wollongong’s UCI Bike City label officially awarded

Wollongong City Council was presented with the city’s official recognition as a UCI Bike City.

It was an exciting moment for our city as it recognises our commitment to cycling for everyone of all abilities.

Luminous took over Wollongong

Held from 26 – 30 October, Wollongong was treated to five days of great music, art, culture, dance, and fun.

Celebrating 2 years of FOGO

Friday 9 December marks the second-year anniversary of Wollongong’s Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO).

Tiny Forests bring nature to our suburbs

Our latest Tiny Forest saw Dapto High School students team up with Council to plant over 250 plants on a patch of land in the middle of suburbia. It’s all part of our efforts to green our city.

Soggy sports fields challenge season start

Earlier in the year, heavy wet weather paired with moment of sunshine made mowing our sports fields a difficult task. It was a battle between Council’s mowers and the grass. Thanks for your patience as we worked through this challenge.

We’re making moves to participate in the NSW Government’s trial of e-scooters and e-bikes. Next year we’ll share more about how the trial will work and where it will roll-out to. Stay tuned!

Thousands drop in for Comic Gong 2022

Were you there at Comic Gong 2022? The sun was shining on Saturday 14 May as thousands of people converged on the CBD for Wollongong's original pop-culture festival.

Cringila Hills Mountain Bike Park

This year we unveiled the new Bike Skills Playground and asphalt Pump track at Cringila Hills.

The Cringila Hills Recreation Park is one of the most exciting places to visit in the Illawarra and offers different features to suit riders with different skill levels.
